DISCOVERING UMBRIAN CULINARY TRADITIONS: NERO NORCIA 2016

Besides being one of the most awaited events for all truffles and good cooking fans, Nero Norcia is also one of the oldest fairs, as it has been taking place for over 50 years. The 53rd edition of the most important food and agricultural exhibition in Umbria is back for two weekends with a rich program of collateral events; the 2016 edition will take place in the setting of the beautiful Norcia from February 26 to 28 and from March 4 to 6.

APPROACHING UMBRIAN FLAVOURS

The 53rd edition of Nero Norcia, the National Exhibition of Black Truffle and typical Umbrian products is back to bring the public closer to the flavours and the local genuine knowledge. It will also highlight the culinary excellences from other Italian regions, confirming itself as privileged appointment to show how mouth-watering and cultural the Italian territories are.
Between continuity and innovation, the show dedicated to the “King Truffle” will try to impress visitors: tastings of sausages, cured meats, cheeses, and meetings focused on the precious “black diamond of the table” through an original research of culinary combinations. Numerous collateral events, such as painting and photographic exhibitions, theatrical performances, demonstrations of cheese processing will enrich this festival entirely dedicated to the culinary traditions of this area.

SOME FACTS ABOUT THE UMBRIAN BLACK TRUFFLE

The truffle is harvested each year in the territories of Norcia from December to mid-March, reason why the event Nero Norcia is accurately organized for the last weekend on February and the first on March, so as to offer always freshly picked truffles. Indeed, the town of Norcia is ranked first for the production of the so-called “Tuber Melanosporum Vittadini”, recognized as the most precious black truffle in the world.
This type of truffle grows mainly in calcareous soils and lives in symbiosis with other plants, such as oak, holm oak, but also beech and chestnut. With a round shape and variable size (ranging from the size of a walnut to an apple), it is characterized by a pleasant and aromatic scent, fully exalted by cooking.

ABOUT THE FAIR

The event includes meetings, tastings, thematic exhibitions, shows and much more. Visitors can combine a visit to the town of Norcia, Umbrian jewel, with a tasting of truffles and the best local products.
Stands come from all Italian regions to show and offer a wide range of quality food. For two weekends, the event will welcome famous guests, but the highlight will be represented by exhibitors coming from all over Italy that will be showcasing the best products of their land.
